You
can find Plaza de Mayo,
in the heart of downtown, the main historic
square where
most of the politico protests take place,
surrounding the square is Cabildo,
The Pink House, residence of the government
and the Metropolitan Cathedral built in
the XVIII century in neoclassic style.
There you can find the remains of General
Jóse San Martin. Avenida de Mayo
begins there. Similar to the Great Via
Madrileña with tree-shaded Avenue
lined with grand buildings.
Nearby at the revamped dock area is Puerto Madero,
the 19th century warehouses have been converted into offices, lofts
and cool restaurants
serving sophisticated food. This neighbourhood can be compared to that
of the seaport in New York. You can visit the famous Fragata Sarmiento
, old school ship anchored in dyke3, actually it is now a Museum from
the Marine.
In
this neighbourhood is also Florida, a bustling
central shopping area and pedestrian walk,
five blocks away is the famous theatre
Colon (considered one of the four biggest
classical theatre in the world) with its
majestic architecture belonging to different
European style. Walking a bit further is
the Obelisco high up overlooking junctions
Diagonal Norte Avenue, Corrientes and 9
de Julio: this last is known as the widest
Avenue in the world and runs through the
city north to south. Part of the attraction
are the parks and wide green spaces throughout. |
